It is the smallest SFP I/O building block: one transceiver slot, smallest front-panel cutout (~15.25×6.5 mm), no soldering, no light pipe, no heat sink​ — exactly the configuration TE documents as 2170039-1 ("Single Cage, External Springs, No Lightpipe, Heat Sink Compatible: No").


It accepts SFP, SFP+, and SFP28 optical transceivers, DAC and AOC, and mounts to the host PCB via compliant press-fit pins — making it the default choice for single-uplink media converters, 1-port NICs, industrial DIN switches, protocol converters, and diagnostic/test cards​ where software/NMS handles port status and EMI containment is non-negotiable.
